Inventory changes often and these are frequently one-of-a-kind items.  Be sure to stop by as you stroll Old Town and enjoy the "vibe" of one of the cities oldest neighborhoods.  All inventory is made by individuals-not factory pieces.  As such, many are one of a kind.  Buy local and buy unique.  None of this is available on Amazon, not a factory piece in inventory, everyday is Black Friday as our prices cannot be beat, no tax as we are a philanthropic program and the artist receives 100% of the price - staff is all volunteer.

Blue Portal features the work of Albuquerque's creative seniors.  The shop offers a wide spectrum of unique well priced handmade items.  At present, Blue Portal features the works of more than 450 New Mexico artists.

UNIQUE ART FROM RECYCLED MATERIALS I have lived in NM since 1987 and have a BFA from the former College of Santa Fe and Master's in Occupational Therapy from UNM. I enjoy exploring possibilities and creating unique works from recycled materials, from fountains, to punched tin, to glass bottles, and woodwork from pallets. To quote my father, it's junk until you need it! When it comes to creativity, the sky is the limit; and in NM it is limitless! Learn More

LENORA C. MARTINEZ

$1.00

Lenora Martinez was born and raised in a northern NM community just north of San Juan Indian Pueblo. For centuries the people of this community have been working with their hands. Folk arts and crafts were a natural part of her upbringing. Lenora lived in California for many years, and upon retirement she returned to her NM roots to continue her artistic pursuits. Her work is now a labor of love. She works in several mediums but clay work will always be closet to her heart. A bit of spirit is in every piece she creates. Learn More

ROBERT HAUERT

$1.00

Robert spent his early years on a ranch near Cortez CO. The family moved to Albuquerque where he graduated from Albuquerque HS, then joined the Navy during the Korean conflict. After his discharge he returned to Albuquerque where he married, settled in the North Valley and raised his family. The family home became the hub of his toy making. After retiring in 1998 he continued to make toys and other popular items, which he sells at Blue Portal. In addition to his toy making, he volunteers with Blue Portal each week working with the other artists who bring their work in for consignment. Learn More

NANCY CHAVEZ

I am originally from Los Alamos, born and raised. I have been crocheting for 20 years or better. I am New Mexico True Certified. I crochet animals and animated characters. I love making these because I enjoy seeing the beautiful smiles on children's faces, and if I can be that one person that can make that special person happy, it makes me happy. I do not use patterns. I create my work by looking at pictures, which makes my work very unique. They all have their own personality. I love what I do, and you can follow me on Instagram @ladyofcrafts, or on FB http://www.facebook.com/nancycritters/ Learn More

JUNE KRUMPOTICK
Size: VARIOUS
$1.00

Fiber arts - crocheting, knitting, weaving - have always been my creative outlet. After my mother died in 1990, I was traveling around the country visiting old friends and realized that they all had one of my mother's quilts, so I added quilting to my repertoire. When the City of Albuquerque banned plastic bags in January 2020, a move I heartily supported, I decided to crochet washable cotton tote bags for people to use instead. Learn More

PHYLLIS POPP
Size: VARIOUS
$1.00

As a kid growing up on a farm in Iowa, I loved playing in the mud. As an adult I love making hand built pottery. As a naturalist many times my art includes something from the environment. These two pieces are called Flutterby and Blackhole. Learn More

JUDY SEIGEL
Size: VARIOUS
$1.00

I am a long time resident of Albuquerque and volunteer at the NM Museum of Natural History. As an avid hiker and outdoorsperson, I love the vastness of the NM landscapes and its flora and fauna. My work reflects the influences of my naturalist training, the Sandia Mountain vistas from my home, the Rio Grande Bosque and techniques, such as Asian brush painting, acquired in my travels throughout the world.
