GREAT BALLOON FIESTA INVENTORY ARRIVING - BE PREPARED FOR THE 50TH

Inventory changes often and these are frequently one-of-a-kind items.  Be sure to stop by as you stroll Old Town and enjoy the "vibe" of one of the cities oldest neighborhoods.  All inventory is made by individuals-not factory pieces.  As such, many are one of a kind.  Buy local and buy unique.  None of this is available on Amazon, not a factory piece in inventory, everyday is Black Friday as our prices cannot be beat, no tax as we are a philanthropic program and the artist receives 100% of the price - staff is all volunteer.

Blue Portal features the work of Albuquerque's creative seniors.  The shop offers a wide spectrum of unique well priced handmade items.  At present, Blue Portal features the works of more than 450 New Mexico artists.

From the time I was a small child I would pick up bits of colored glass or gather bottles that had a shine or special shape. Now, in fusing glass I can express that delight I had as a young child creating fun and exciting art from everyday images. Now as a long time resident of NM, I love its shapes, textures, colors and ever-changing patterns in nature. I have learned to enjoy the nuances of place, people, relationship and interaction with self and other. As a glass artist, I am learning to enjoy the same energies that exist within myself and bring them into playful expression. This is a magical journey into the unkknown territory that I find thrilling. Learn More

I was born in Louisville, Ohio, lived there for 42 years and that if where I became fascinated with china painting. I continued taking classes and painting with friends through several moves, then in 2016 I moved to Albuquerque. Again, I found a small group that met and painted once a month. I have won ribbons for my work at the NM State Fair and continue to sell work at the Blue Portal. Learn More

I am originally from New York City, but I have lived in many places including St. Lucia, Guatemala and Taiwan as well as several cities in the US. I have lived in Albuquerque for the last 30 years where I taught English as a Second Language in the public schools. I have always been fascinated with glass and the way light reflects off of it. When I retired I took some lessons in stained glass and have spent the last 10 years pursuing my hobby. At times I look to nature for inspiration. At other times, a piece of glass will inspire an abstract work. It is always different and that is part of the fun. Learn More

I have been a rock hound since childhood and have collected many beautiful rocks and minerals over my lifetime. When I retired I took classes on how to cut and polish rocks and silversmithing and it has become a passion. I find it very exciting to see raw materials transform into a final product that can be worn as jewelry. Learn More

I grew up on the Maine coast and have always had a child's fascination for things that sparkled and glistened. The simple puddling of gasoline on the water after a lobster boat had gassed up, or a tidal pool at low tide always fascinated me. To recreate those colors I design cabochon jewels. Alcohol ink is added in layers to the backside of a flat glass marble. Each one is unique and is approximately 1 1//4in in diameter. I never know what the front will look like until the ink has dried and I can turn it over. Sealant is then applied to the bottom side, making these water-resistant. A fun addition to a garden, plant pot, window sill or even a piece of rotted wood. Learn More
